PURPOSE STATEMENT

To create, manage and grow a magnificent fresh baked food service which constantly satisfies, amazes and delights our customers

to the extent that the returns in sales and profitability sustain an enthusiastic, happy, co-operative, supportive and productive team

working with mutual respect and honesty in a comfortable, safe and functional environment

earning the levels of financial and emotional rewards considered appropriate by all

This purpose statement was written cooperatively by 15 members of Bob & Pete's staff - from administration, production, dispatch, deliveries and management, who voluntarily gave up a Saturday, back in August 1996, to take part in some general discussion about the company and its future.

The company was not in great shape back then and Bob Yates, my partner for the previous fifteen years, had recently left the company. It's interesting to read this statement again today and recognise that, by applying these principles, we have turned the company around and come close to achieving all these goals, with the possible exception of the "financial rewards". We'll get there though.
